What is Bulkamid® and how does it treat stress urinary incontinence (SUI)?

2025-04-24T14:20:01+00:00April 24, 2025|

Bulkamid® is a sterile, water‑based gel that’s injected into the walls of the urethra to “bulk up” the tissue. By adding volume around the urethral lining, it helps prevent urine leakage during activities like coughing, sneezing, or exercising—without the need for more invasive surgery.

Am I a good candidate for Bulkamid® treatment?

2025-04-24T14:19:10+00:00April 24, 2025|

Ideal candidates are women experiencing mild to moderate SUI who prefer a minimally invasive option. Bulkamid® is performed under local anesthesia in about 10–15 minutes, making it a good choice if you'd like to avoid general anesthesia or a longer recovery from traditional sling surgery. A complete evaluation at A Woman’s Place will determine if [...]

How is the Bulkamid® procedure performed and what should I expect?

2025-04-24T14:18:41+00:00April 24, 2025|

During the procedure, your provider makes 3–4 small injections of the gel around the urethra. You'll be comfortable under local anesthetic, and most patients feel only mild pressure or discomfort. The entire treatment takes roughly a quarter‑hour, and you can go home the same day.

What is the recovery like and when can I resume my normal activities?

2025-04-24T14:18:09+00:00April 24, 2025|

Recovery is quick for most women. You may experience mild urinary urgency or discomfort for 24–48 hours. We recommend avoiding heavy lifting and high‑impact exercise for about one week, but you can usually return to desk work or light activities within 1–2 days.

What are the potential risks or side effects of Bulkamid®?

2025-04-24T14:17:34+00:00April 24, 2025|

Bulkamid® is well tolerated, but as with any injection, there is a small risk of urinary tract infection, temporary urinary retention, mild bleeding at the injection site, or discomfort. Serious complications are rare, and our team will review all safety information and post‑procedure care with you before moving forward.
